Orientation programme concludes

A two days orientation training programme on 'Pesticides Regulatory Framework and Safe & Judicious Use of Pesticides" concluded yesterday at the Directorate of Agriculture Farmers Training Hall, Sanjenthong.
The programme was organised by Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Imphal in collaboration with the Directorate of Agriculture, District Agriculture Office, Imphal East and State Level Pesticides Residue Monitoring Committee (PRMC) .
As per a release issued by CIPMC Imphal, a total of 97 trainees from State Pesticide Inspector, pesticide dealers, KVKs and FPOs participated in the training programme.
The inaugural function held on August 21 was graced by dignitaries, including Peter Salam, Director, Agriculture Department, Manipur; Donald Soubam, Director, Mission Organic Manipur Agency; Dr Adam Kamei, Officer-in-Charge, CIPMC Imphal and Central Insecticide Inspector; Ph Premila, District Agriculture Officer, Imphal East; Kh Nimaichand, MOVCDNER-Agri, Nodal Officer; Dr Zashmarani Sarangthem, Head, KVK Thoubal; and Dr Sunita Pandey, Joint Director, IPM cum Locust Division Schemein-Charge, Faridabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Donald Soubam stressed on the importance of pesticides residue in enhancing exporting organic commodities to maintain minimum MRI in acceptance limit.
Peter Salam emphasized the need for dealers to acquire proper Registration & License from the Licensing Authority and sell recommended pesticides to farmers.
He also encouraged the adoption of IPM technologies, utilizing bio-control agents and bio pesticides as eco-friendly tools to minimize pesticides application.
In the technical session, Maibam Chintu, AO(PP) gave a presentation on the topic, "Role of State Agricultural Department Insecticide Inspector in enforcement of Insecticides Act".
Binalata Kangjam, APPO (PP), delivered a lecture on "Introduction to Insecticide Act 1968 and Insecticide Rule 1971" while Dr Kamei spoke on "Role and responsibilities of Insecticide Inspectors and dealers, and Pesticide Sampling Procedures" and Kh Nimaichand elaborated on 'Testicide residue in Agriculture Crops".
Maibum Chintu, AO (Plant Protection), Porompat; Phijam Surjakanta, Designated Officer Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI); Poudumai Seisou Khozii, Officer-in-Charge, Plant Health Clinic, Horticulture; and Aheiham Ranila Devi, APPO (PP) also attended the programme as resource persons.
On the second day, Dr Kamei delivered a lecture on "Packing and Labelling of Insecticides and Functions of Central Insecticides Board and Registration Committee".
He also gave a demonstration on how to visit the DPPQS website for the latest updates.
A field visit to pesticide dealers' shops was also carried out to demonstrate identification of pesticide labels.
KVKs of Churachandpur, Imphal East, Tamenglong, Thoubal and Ukhrul districts; State Department and PFO's PESCH, Jiribam also participated in the programme through virtual mode.
