Imphal, September 20 2026: Moirang police rescued a West Bengal resident who was abducted upon his arrival at the Imphal Airport yesterday.

Police said the man rescued has been identified as Md Wasim Akram.

Akram was abducted upon his arrival at the Imphal Airport, and was being transported in a Bolero vehicle bearing Assam registration number.

Akram, however, managed to escape his abductors at Naranseina by pulling the handbrake of the vehicle and fled to security personnel for help.

While rescuing him, Moirang police immediately arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as Makakmayum Imtiyazur Rahaman (24) of Wangoi Mamang Leikai.

An investigation has been launched to identify and arrest remaining suspects, said the police.
