Lions Club provides water bottles, edibles

Imphal, July 20 2025:
Lions Club of Imphal has handed over steel water bottles and food items to the Destitute Children Home, Tera Keithel on Sunday.
A release issued by Lions Club of Imphal informed that steel water bottles were donated for 40 boys of the home under One District One Activity of Lions branding activity in a function held at the home.
According to Lions Club of Imphal president Manas Maisnam the steel bottles can replace plastic bottles, thereby reducing dependency on plastic.
The food items donated included two bags of rice, a bag of potato, one bag of onion, dal, milk, tea, sugar, 'ngari', etc .
Meanwhile, as a part of observance of centennial of Helen Keller's "Knights of the Blind" speech (1925-2025) held at the Home, past district governor W Gopimohan delivered lecture on the life and struggles of Helen Keller and her impact on Lions Club.
He said that during the 9th International Convention of Lions Club held in Ohio, USA in June 1925, Helen Keller made a fervent appeal to members of Lions Clubs across the world to be the "Knights of the Blind in the fight against blindness".
The Lions Club immediately took up the challenge of Helen Keller and for 100 years since then, vision is an important focused project of more than 48,000 Lions Clubs in over 210 countries, Prof Gopimohan said, adding that since 1990, "Sight First" funds have allowed the members, health care providers and partner organisations around the world to fight the major causes of preventable and reversible blindness, impacting more than 544 million people.
The programme was attended by senior members of Lions Club of Imphal and functionaries of the children home.
