Painting competition spreads awareness on child marriage in Thoubal

Thoubal, March 18 2026:
A spot painting competition on the theme "Stop Child Marriage" was organised today at Little Star English Secondary School, Thoubal Haokha, for students of Class VI to X, drawing active participation and creative expression from young minds.
The competition was jointly organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Thoubal, and Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, under the aegis of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA).
According to a release issued by the Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, a total of 138 students from various schools participated enthusiastically in the event.
The first, second and third prize winners of the competition were awarded cash prizes of Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 respectively, along with certificates.
Students securing fourth to eight positions received Rs 200 each and certificates as consolation prizes, while all participants were given certificates to acknowledge and encourage their efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, Thingujam Arunkumar Singh, Coordinator of Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Leitanpok, stated that the competition was organised as part of a nationwide campaign to abolish the practice of child marriage in India.
He emphasised that such initiatives aim to create awareness among youth while providing them a platform to showcase their talents and understanding of important social issues.
He further noted that the competition would enhance creativity, skills and awareness , contributing towards the goal of child marriage-free India.
Later as part of the competition, a legal awareness session on the "Prohibition of Child Marriage Act-2006" was also conducted.
Advocate Thokchom Bishworjit, who attended as the resource person, delivered detailed insights into the issue of child marriage and its legal implications, followed by an interactive session with participants.
