DIET centre demand: Student bodies hold rally in Jiribam

Jiribam, July 17 2025: Following the Government's inaction on a four-point demand memorandum, six student organisations of Jiribam - AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS staged a protest rally in Jiribam today demanding the establishment of a District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) centre in the district.

The rally commenced from Jiribam Higher Secondary School and culminated at IB Leikai Turning Point.

During the protest, students carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the urgent need for a permanent DIET centre and trained educators in the district.

Placards bearing slogans like "Education is Key: Unlock Jiribam's Potential with DIET" were prominently displayed during the protest.

Speaking in this connection, KSA Jiribam president K Somorjit stated that a memorandum was submitted through Deputy Commissioner Jiribam to the Governor of Manipur earlier on June 10, urging them to take immediate action regarding the establishment of DIET center in the district within 5 days.

However, he lamented that no concrete steps have been taken so far, prompting the students to launch such agitation.

He further condemned the recent DIET admission notification issued by the Director of SCERT.

He warned that if the government fails to take swift action to establish a DIET centre in the district, the student bodies will intensify their agitation.
