Imphal, November 16 2025:
Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL), Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup (UNAL) and Enat Yokhat Lup (EYOL) jointly organised a 'Uripok Apunba Meepham' today at Uripok, emphasising the urgent need to safeguard the cultural and social values of the Meitei community amidst the ongoing crisis in the State.
As per a release issued by UAL, the event was graced by Longjam Sana, vice president, EYOL; Sagolsem Indrani, acting president, UNAL; and Soram Tekendrajit, president, UAL as presidium members.
The gathering expressed serious concern over the decline in discipline, family values and social harmony among Meitei households during this turbulent period.
Speakers stressed that the erosion of traditional norms and moral grounding requires immediate collective action.
After thorough deliberation, the meeting resolved to strengthen and restore social discipline in Uripok through active community participation and responsibility-sharing; preserve Meitei family values and discourage behaviours that disrupt social harmony; and regulate monetary practices in rituals and ceremonies, particularly reducing unnecessary financial burdens associated with pala, Deva Karma, and other customary observances.
The meeting also decided to extend full support to EYOL's initiatives aimed at preserving Meitei cultural identity, with cooperation from UAL and UNAL.
Representatives of the organisations also informed that UAL and UNAL support COCOMI's decision to boycott the Sangai Festival, aligning with the stance of several civil society organisations across the State.
