Imphal, May 16 2026:
A complaint filed with the Director General of Police (DGP) has asked the police to register an FIR against Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun (KLA-L) for inciting hatred and hostility between Meitei and Kuki communities.
Dissecting a press statement issued by the KLA-L on May 13, Mayanglambam Bobby Meetei (complainant) accused the group of labelling an entire community as "enemy" .
In its press statement, KLA-L had asked Kuki-Zo people to resist the Chief Minister's visit to "Kuki-Zo territory" .
"We will not tolerate the presence of an enemy figurehead in our territory," read the KLA-L statement.
The KLA-L, in the same statement, had also declared that "All Meitei individuals are strictly prohibited from entering Kuki areas" .
"The separation between Manipur (Meitei Land) and the Kuki land is absolute.
There is no longer a shared political or social geography," it had also said in the statement.
The complaint with the DGP said the KLA-L's statement promotes hatred, hostility, and ill-will between the Meitei and Kuki communities, thereby endangering public peace, social harmony, and the secular fabric of the Nation.
It asked the DGP to direct the police station concerned to register an FIR under Section 196 and Section 197 of the BNS against the office bearers/members of the Kuki Liberation Army-Letkholun.
It also urged the DGP to investigate the matter, prevent further spread of hate speech and take measures to avoid any outbreak of communal violence.
