Imphal, August 13 2025:
The Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) observed Patriots' Day at the premises of the office of the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) at Kwakeithel today.
During the observance, the members of the JSCC and many paid floral tributes to Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and bravehearts who fought and sacrificed their lives for Manipur during the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 .
Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General were publicly hanged by the British on August 13, 1891 at Pheidapung, now known as Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal.
The gathering also observed a 2-minute silence as a mark of respect for the martyrs.
The Athoubashinggi Numit (Patriots' Day) is observed every year to remember the heroes of Manipur and instill patriotism in the minds of the people, especially students and younger generations, said the JSCC .
The younger generation should learn the history and trace the footsteps of "our forefathers" who fought against the mighty British for an independent Manipur.
Their bravery should "inspire us" to love "our motherland" .
The younger generations should stay away from drugs and intoxicants in order to build a strong and healthy society, said the JSCC .
The JSCC is an apex committee of student bodies including the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) .
