Curtain falls on CMAT workshops across Imphal Valley

Several cultural workshops held under the Chief Ministergi Artist Singgi Tengbang (CMAT) Scheme of the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, concluded today with colourful closing functions across Imphal.
At Rupmahal Theatre, the 30-day workshop organised by Bashikhong Dramatic Association culminated in a closing ceremony.
JN Manipur Dance Academy Director P Bilash, who attended as chief guest, said imparting art and culture education to the younger generation is vital for preserving Manipur's rich cultural heritage.
He lauded the Art and Culture Department for its initiatives to revive dying art forms and for introducing pension schemes for artistes, stating that such workshops play a key role in acquainting youth with traditional art forms.
Presiding over the function, Bashikhong Dramatic Association president M Ibochouba said the workshop was aimed at guiding youth to the right path through art and culture and checking moral degradation.
Rupmahal Theatre secretary N Ranjit attended as special guest.
The association's new production "Pidonu" was also staged on the occasion.
In another function at Khurai, Leichal Cultural Academy organised a public presentation of its new production "Panthoibi Jagoi" at Panthoibi Jagoi Multipurpose Community Hall following its CMAT workshop.
The function was graced by SNA Awardee Phanjoubam Iboton Singh as chief guest, MSKA Awardee Loitongbam Brajamohon as president and JNMDA Guru Kamei Abollu as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Iboton Singh said students today should take part in more workshops and seminars to gain deeper knowledge of Manipuri art forms.
Artistes of the academy later presented "Panthoibi Jagoi" to the public.
Meanwhile, the 20-day workshop cum production on "Moirang Sai" organised by the Centre for Traditional Performing Arts, Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai, concluded at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane.
The closing function was attended by Joint Director of Art and Culture G Dharmadas Sharma as chief guest and Visiting Guru, JNMDA, Ima Dhoni Amaibi as president.
