Imphal, September 12 2025:
Appreciating the long due visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Manipur, the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS) stated that any peace process in the State must uphold the territorial integrity of Manipur and safeguard the fundamental rights of the people.
FOCS, in a statement, said that the visit of the Prime Minister will carry immense significance for the people of Manipur who have endured over two years and four months of conflict, displacement and uncertainty.
Expressing hope that the visit of the Prime Minister will not remain a symbolic gesture, it urged the Prime Minister to take a decisive step towards genuine peace, reconciliation and justice.
Peace is not an event but a sustained process built upon trust, dialogue and inclusive participation, FOCS said and maintained that they have extended its full cooperation to the MHA in its pursuit of peace and normalcy.
FOCS presented a five point memorandum to the MHA during a meeting on March 12, 2025 to ensure free movement of people and goods along the highways, facilitate safe return and rehabilitation of IDPs, prevent armed attacks against civilians by strengthening law enforcement, initiate a peace dialogue and carry out a transparent demography study, it added.
Stating that many of these measures remain unfulfilled, FOCS urged the Prime Minister to priorities the return of peace by addressing their demands without delay.
People of Manipur deserve an equal stake in peace, justice and security with the Indian Union, it added.
