Awareness programme on fertilizer and soil management held

Imphal, May 12 2026:
The ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat organised a one-day awareness programme on "Balanced fertilizer use and soil health management for sustainable crop production" at Khurkhul village today.
According to a press release, the programme was conducted under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) campaign and initiated by ICAR, New Delhi.
During the programme, the team comprising Dr Soibam Basanta Singh, Head, ICAR NEH Manipur Centre; Dr E Lamalakshmi Devi; Dr N Anando Singh, Dr Chongtham Tania, Dr Aruna Beemrote, Dr L Chanu Langlentombi, along with the team from ICAR-KVK Imphal West led by Dr L Kanta Singh, Senior Scientist and Head interacted with local farmers and highlighted the importance of balanced fertilizer use and soil health management through Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices for sustainable agriculture.
The programme was also graced by Heikham Premkumar, Chairperson, Khurkhul Gram Panchayat.
He appreciated the ICAR team for extending awareness on such important issues.
The programme focused on sensitizing farmers to the adverse effects of excessive and unbalanced application of chemical fertilizers and emphasized the need for adoption of environment friendly sustainable farming practices, including organic farming and natural farming.
A total of 22 farmers participated in the awareness programme.
During the event, agricultural inputs such as pulse seeds, seedlings, urea, and micronutrients were distributed to the farmers.
