Imphal, February 12: Adequate preparation have been made for smooth and successful organising of the Mega Marathon Manipur 2008 which will be held on February 17 under the theme of "Run for your Nation".

Speaking in connection with the event to be jointly organised by United People's Front (UPF) and Athletic Association of Manipur, vice president of Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association Ch Doren affirmed that 50 of its volunteers would participate in the race in addition to members/functionaries of numerous clubs associated/affiliated to the MMTA would assist the participants throughout the route extending from Khoyathong to Kwakeithel.

Exuding confidence that such a long distance race being organised at the regional (NE) level would help in exploring and tapping talented athletes and strengthen movement of adventure sports, Doren also conveyed that services of several youth and voluntary organisations would be roped in to ensure the event achieve its purpose.

Joining the media briefing at the Minuthong premises of MMTA this afternoon UPF president Th mangi said compared to over 1000 athletes from the State that took part in the marathon race last year this time the event has been raised to the regional level with the participants likely to exceed 2000.Conveying strong desire that State authorities do the needful to develop/repair roads through which the race would pass, Mangi said competitions would be held in the categories of open half marathon, North East open full marathon and veterans' open race.
