Kakching, November 10 2025:
Aggrieved over the authorities' failure to repair the badly damaged stretch of National Highway 137(A) passing through Kakching, despite repeated assurances to begin repair work by November 10, various civil society organisations (CSOs) of the district have jointly announced an indefinite Kakching district bandh, effective from midnight.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of the CSOs held today, expressing strong resentment against the concerned departments for their negligence and failure to address the long-pending road repair issue.
Speaking at a press conference held at Kakching Keithel, All Kakching Clubs Coordinating Committee secretary, Mayanglambam Maniyaima, stated that the road stretch from Kakching Lamkhai to Wabagai Lamkhai, which forms part of NH-137(A), has remained in a dilapidated condition for a long time, causing immense hardship to the public who rely on the road for transport, trade, and other daily activities.
He said that despite several appeals and repeated assurances from the authorities to initiate the repair works, no visible action has been taken.
The recent assurance to commence repairs by November 10 also failed to materialize, prompting the aggrieved bodies of Kakching district to call for an indefinite bandh.
He said that the bandh, however, would not affect essential services such as medical, religious ceremonies, media, water supply, and electricity.
