Imphal, May 10 2026:
The State Government has not been releasing any financial assistance for the widespread devastation caused by floods, hailstorms and hailstones in 2024, 2025 and 2026 .
A ferocious hailstorm accompanied by heavy hailstones wreaked havoc across Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts on May 5, 2024 .
The hailstorm which was accompanied by hailstones caused huge damages to thousands of houses with almost all tin roofs perforated and destroyed vast fields of standing crops.
It was reported that over 15,000 houses were ravaged by the hailstorm and hailstones.
Large parts of both Imphal East and Imphal West were flooded for several days starting from may 28, 2024, thereby compounding the woes of people already affected by hailstorm and hailstones earlier in the same month.
Again, in October same year, many localities as well as vast areas of paddy fields which were ready for harvesting were inundated by floods.
As relief assistance for the widespread devastation caused by hailstorm, hailstones and repeated floods, the Centre sanctioned an amount of Rs 15336 lakh on May 5, 2025, sources said.
However, the State Government has not yet released the financial assistance sanctioned by the Centre in 2025.As such, the affected people have not been getting any relief assistance from the Government till date.
Many parts of Manipur including both the hill districts and valley districts faced devastating floods three times in 2025 too.
This year, hailstorms and hailstones wreaked havoc in many parts of the State.
A large number of houses, other structures and vast fields of standing crops were either destroyed or severely damaged.
But the victims of these natural disasters have not been getting any aid as the State Govt has not been releasing the amount sanctioned by the Centre for relief assistance.
