Awareness programme on Child Marriage' held at Machi

An awareness programme focusing on child marriage prevention and broader child protection issues was conducted today at Machi High School, Tengnoupal district.
The event was jointly organized by Foundation of Rural Development (FORD), Machi in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Tengnoupal as part of the nationwide "Bal Vivah Mukta Bharat" campaign.
The campaign brought together school teachers, students, local leaders, and other community stakeholders to raise awareness on key issues affecting children.
Discussions covered the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and the POCSO Act.
Emphasis was laid on the legal consequences of child labour and early marriage, as well as the community's role in prevention and intervention The programme played a vital role in spreading legal awareness and strengthening community vigilance to create a safe and supportive environment for children in the region.
A poster campaign was also held alongside the sessions, visually educating participants on child rights and legal safeguards.
The toll-free Childline number 1098 was widely promoted, encouraging timely reporting of any child abuse, child labour, or exploitation cases.
