Imphal, August 06 2025:
The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM), GHQ, has strongly condemned the alleged telephonic threat issued to the council and its president by a younger brother of an officer of the Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) .
As per a release issued by TYCM, the threat was made through a phone call on August 6 at around 10:54 am, allegedly in connection with the press statement released by TYCM-GHQ on August 5, which demanded the Government to issue a public notification, inviting applications from eligible tribal candidates of Manipur for the appointment or nomination of a new Chairperson of the MSCST, following the completion of the incumbent's three-year tenure.
The TYCM reiterated that it has no favoritism toward or bias against any individual regarding the appointment or nomination of a new Chairperson.
The TYCM asserted that its sole concern is to ensure that a public notification is issued at the earliest and the appointment process is carried out in a transparent and fair manner, free from political influence.
"The threatening voice and the accompanying allegations have been recorded and preserved as evidence", said TYCM while adding that an 'invitation letter' was served today to the individual concerned to appear before the council at Dewlahland on August 7 at 4:30 pm, to provide an explanation regarding the incident.
"Failure to comply with this invitation will compel the TYCM-GHQ to initiate legal proceedings before a competent Court or take any other action deemed appropriate", warned TYCM .
