"Make all banking services accessible to PwDs"

Taking up a suo moto case, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur has directed banks operating in Manipur to ensure that all banking services are accessible to PwDs.
In a notification, State Commissioner for PwDs W Birahari Singh directed all State banks that are presently non-compliant with the RBI/IBA accessibility norms to ensure that all banking services, including physical infrastructure and digital platforms, are made fully accessible to persons with disabilities without any further delay.
Additionally, in branches where physical accessibility remains a constraint, the State Commissioner instructed the concerned banks to designate responsible officials to facilitate all essential banking services at the ground floor or any other barrier-free and accessible area within the premises, supported by requisite infrastructure and staff assistance.
Furthermore, the notification encouraged PwDs and senior citizens who face difficulties in accessing banking services, particularly due to the inaccessibility of upper floors or non- compliance with the above directions to report such grievances to the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Manipur at the following contact numbers: 8131947029, 8794563238, 7005615457 and 6009347127 .
