Van Mahotsav Week: Tree Plantation drives continue across State

Beginning July 1, 2025, Assam Rifles marked commencement of the week-long "Van Mahotsav" campaign with a series of tree plantation drives across various districts of Manipur.
According to a release issued by the IGAR (S), the initiative, organised in collaboration with the Forest Departments of Tengnoupal, Chandel, Kakching and Churachandpur, was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The events witnessed active participation from Assam Rifles personnel, forest officials, Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) from Chandel, Sugnu, Kakching, Tengnoupal and Churachandpur, as well as the Chief Conservator of Forests (Administration & Planning), Government of Manipur.
The presence of school children, teachers, education officers from Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Tengnoupal, Principal of EMRS Moreh, Preach Heritage Academy, Chakpikarong and leaders from various Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) underlined a shared commitment to environmental conservation.
Sapling plantation drives were conducted at schools and other key locations, with the enthusiastic involvement of more than 100 Assam Rifles personnel and 200 civilians, including children, teachers, and community members.
The campaign was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial planting of saplings by dignitaries, symbolising the launch of an ambitious drive to plant 1,000 saplings each in the districts of Tengnoupal and Chandel.
In Kakching, the campaign was aptly themed 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam', with participants pledging to plant and nurture trees in honour of mothers, further strengthening the emotional and cultural significance of the initiative.
Beyond its green objectives, the campaign served as an educational and motivational platform, particularly for students, inspiring them to become lifelong stewards of the environment, said the IGAR (S) .
Tree plantation drive at Ningel Thumkhong Lairembi
As part of the ongoing Van Mahotsav celebration, a tree plantation drive was conducted today at the sorrounding area of Nzigel Thumkhong Lairembi, located under Mayai Keithel Beat Office.
The programme was organised by the Thoubal Range under the initiative of the Thoubal Forest Division.
With the theme "Plant Trees, Save Trees, Lend a Hand to Make Our Manipur Greener", the event aimed to promote awareness and participation in environmental conservation among the local population.
Speaking in this connection.
Range Officer Thoubal, Dineshchandra Salam said that today's plantation programme marks the fourth event held in the district under the Thoubal Range.
He also emphasized the importance of community participation in preserving the trees planted and enhancing the beauty of the Thumkhong Lairembi area.
He added that the Forest Department will continue to actively contribute to building a cleaner and greener environment.
The plantation initiative included the participation of Mayai Keithel Beat Officer L Samananda, Yairipok Beat Officer Kh Herojit, staff of the Forest Department and local residents.
