Imphal, May 04 2026:
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, officially commenced its observance of Fire Safety Week 2026 today.
The week-long initiative, which runs through May 10, aligns with national guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
This year's observance centers on the theme, "Safe School, Safe Hospital & Fire Safety Aware Society - Together for Fire Prevention".
The programme was inaugurated in a hybrid event featuring the formal launch by the Secretary (Health).
A key highlight of the opening session was the administration of the PanIndia Fire Safety Pledge, followed by the release of updated fire and life safety guidelines.
To ensure broad reach, the institute has also launched an online pledge and quiz for public participation.
The first day saw a flurry of activities designed to strengthen emergency response among medical professionals and students.
These included internal fire safety audits with reporting through the IHIP portal, awareness programmes such as poster-making competitions, quizzes for nursing officials and staff, and evacuation demonstrations, as well as capacity-building sessions on fire safety.
Specialized training was provided for staff in critical care areas (ICU, NICU, PICU, and operation theatres), along with sensitization of electrical personnel and training for housekeeping and security staff on fire prevention and response.
All departments, faculty members, staff, and students actively participated in the programmes to ensure effective implementation of fire safety practices.
According to the institute, the primary goal of the week is to move beyond compliance and build a genuine culture of fire prevention that protects both healthcare providers and the wider community.
