IKAL celebrates Foundation Day with 'Sajibu Khudol Tamba'

The Iramdam Kanba Apunba Lup (IKAL) marked its 13thFoun-dation Day today, blending the celebration with the "Sajibu Khudol Tamba Ee-gi Khonggul Liba" programme and a ceremony honoring women fortheir societal contributions.
Held at the Soibam Leikai Ayangpali Youth Club Community Hall, the event revolved around the theme "For tomorrow, let us build the strength of unity" .
Presidium members included IKAL president Naorem Memma, advisor Adhikarimayum Ridimala, League of Indigenous People Upliftment (LIPUL) advisor Puyam Joy, LIPUL president Thokchom Somendro, and State Bishnupriya Manipuri Maha Sabha Barak Valley Khilonjia general secretary Pukhrambam Jishunu Singh.
The event commenced with a traditional Pena Yakairol performance and lamplighting ceremony.
IKAL general secretary W Luwangleima highlighted the event's significance, explaining that the "Sajibu Khudol Tamba Ee-gi Khonggul Liba" programme- once separate- has merged with the Foundation Day in recent years to unite communities affected by social challenges.
She noted that the "Ougri Hangen Chongba" cultural ritual, an annual event since 2016, aims to bring prosperity by driving away negativity and evil forces through soulful songs and vibrant dances.
The ceremony also included the annual tradition of honouring women who have uplifted the community.
Women aged 40 and above who have five or more children were presented with a cash award, a traditional shawl, and a certificate of recognition to encourage them.
