Training programme held

Under the aegis of Department of Agriculture and Co-operation and Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation of Union Ministry of Agriculture, Horticulture and Soil Conservation (H&SC), Kangpokpi Deputy Director organised a one-day farmers' training programme on amelioration of acid soils in horticulture crop areas of Manipur and on-farm water management at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham UJB School today.
Mayangkhang Ningthoupham village chief BK John, former pastor PY Majulong and H & SC Kangpokpi Deputy Director Sh Premeshwar Sharma attended the training programme as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
While speaking at the function, BK John said that farmers must be provided training from time to time in order to make them understand about the global climate change and its impact on soil and farming.
Farmers must be imparted training on organic farming, environment protection and enhancement of production, he added.
In his speech, Sh Premeshwar Sharma stressed the need for introduction of new equipment and techniques to enhance production.
Speaking on scanty rainfall being experienced in the State since the past few years, he also mentioned about the need of rain water harvesting.
Horticulture officer K Devdutta while speaking at the training programme as a resource person spoke at length about the advantage of organic farming.
