Sky Hospital introduces 'video laryngoscope' to enhance airway management

Imphal, July 29 2026: Sky Hospital and Research Centre, RIMS Road, Imphal on Wednesday launched a video laryngoscope, marking a major step toward improving emergency and critical airway care.

Unveiling the device, Chief Cardiologist of Sky Hospital Dr Shyamkishore Lairikyengbam told reporters that the new, time-appropriate equipment will help save patients in emergency and critical conditions related to breathing.

He said the new system is far more convenient than the conventional laryngoscope used earlier.

With the conventional device, doctors had to perform intubation blindly through the mouth into the windpipe, which affected accuracy and precision and caused discomfort to patients.

The video laryngoscope, equipped with a high-definition camera and bright LED light, allows doctors better visualization.

The entire process can also be displayed live, which will help in study, training and research, he added.

Dr Shyamkishore further said the device reduces trauma during intubation and can be used even when a patient's body is not fully extended.

He also gave a demonstration highlighting the difference and benefits compared to the conventional laryngoscope.

The hospital said it remains committed to bringing modern medical equipment to provide world-class healthcare.
