Imphal, January 28 2026:
The Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) has accused Manipur University (MU) Vice Chancellor Professor N Lokendra Singh of running the university as if it were his private office, in violation of the institution's rules and regulations.
Speaking to the media at Khuyathong today, KSA president Seram Hemjit claimed that the Vice Chancellor's conduct could jeopardize the future of job aspirants and the State's human resources.
Announcing that KSA will take steps to safeguard the university, he sought cooperation from the teachers and students of MU in the initiative.
KSA has evidence of the VC's involvement in fraudulent activities, he alleged.
Saying that they have submitted several memoranda to the relevant authorities demanding an inquiry against the VC, he added that their demand, however, has fallen on deaf ears.
Hemjit said that the authorities' inaction on the serious charges against the MU VC shows the Government is not serious about the initiatives taken to improve higher education.
He claimed that Professor Lokendra fraudulently amended Statute 19(2) of the MU regulations during the recruitment process while he was serving as the Registrar.
Hemjit further alleged that the VC was involved in other fraudulent activities, and that KSA has evidence to support these claims.
No inquiry has been initiated regarding the alleged recruitment of an individual in the Department of Teacher Education at MU using a fake certificate, he claimed.
Additionally, he criticized the manner in which a notice for the written and skill tests for non-teaching posts was issued yesterday was controversial as it was allegedly done in a rush.
