BJP Manipur apprises Rajnath of State issues

Imphal, June 27 2014 : BJP Manipur has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh highlighting various issues besieging the State.

The memorandum said that the State Unit has no objection in inviting UG outfits to join the mainstream and rehabilitating them.

However, Government of India should not yield to any pressure which would affect the territorial integrity of all the States of North-East and to the federal structure of the country.

There should be peaceful political dialogue and zero tolerance to any extremist group, the memorandum said.

The representation also sought justice for the over 1500 persons who were reportedly killed in 'fake encounters' in Manipur during the last two decades.

The matter is pending before the Supreme Court at the moment but an indication from the Home Minister's end would go a long way in ensuring justice, it added.

The memorandum also demanded that the Express Highway (Super Highway) from Saurastra in Gujarat to Silchar in Assam be extended upto Moreh.

The Jiribam to Imphal portion presently having a distance of 220 km in a mountainous terrain should be shortened by way of tunnelling for a stretch of about 70 km.

On the other hand, the present distance of Pallel to Moreh (border town near Myanmar) is about 65 km, it said and added that by tunneling this portion, the distance can be reduced to 30 km.

Regarding Kabaw valley, the memorandum sought a relook into the agreement inked in 1953 so that the Burmese Government either pay money to Manipur for the valley in the present value or return the Kabaw Valley to Manipur.

The representation also demanded for raising of a Manipur Regiment in the Indian Army.

It also requested to initiate steps to prevent the present system of cornering of 25 percent of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by the MLAs from the budget and to ensure that the Zilla Parishad and Autonomous Districts Council in the hill areas function fully autonomous and financial freedom.

Drawing attention of the Minister regarding erratic power supply and scarcity of drinking water, the representation also requested the Minister to establish a Sports University in the State to enhance the sporting talents.

The BJP Manipur also demanded for setting up of a Cultural University, upgradation of IGNTU-RCM to a full-fledged Tribal University.

Development of Inter-Districts roads, inclusion of Manipur language (Meetei script) in Indian currency note, categorization of Meiteis as Scheduled Tribes were also mentioned in the memorandum jointly signed by Santi kumar Sharma, former BJP Manipur President, S Rajen Singh, Vice President BJP Manipur, Y Khemchand, Vice President BJP Manipur and N Ratan (Kapu), State Executive Member BJP.
