CM lashes drug menace

Imphal, January 27 2018: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated that a fast track Court would be established soon to tackle drug menace and punish drug smugglers and those who are associated with such business in the State.

The fast track Court would replace the present NDPS Court to hear all the cases pertaining drug abuse and smuggling.

This was stated by him at the 4th Distribution of Educational Financial Assistance for the Children of Widows of Langthabal Constituency held at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community Hall today.

The function was organised by the Langthabal Kendra Widows' Welfare Association.

Speaking as chief guest of the function, the Chief Minister said that a committee has been formed with Principal Secretary (Home) as chairman and ADG as vice-chairman to tackle the issue of drug menace in the State.

He stated that IGs, DCs and SPs would be members of the committee.

An official order would be issued today, he added.

He mentioned that the committee would not only look into the rapidly growing menace of drugs among young adults but also check the peddling and smuggling of drugs in the State.

The committee would be able to track down kingpins of drug smuggling business in the State.

The Chief Minister said that a WhatsApp group has been formed to exchange information and cases related to drug menace.

He said that he has been receiving photographs and reports of destroying poppy plants in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur areas in the group.

Expressing serious concern over widespread poppy and cannabis plantation at different parts of the State, the Chief Minister asked the DCs, SPs and SDOs concerned to destroy all these plants within the month of March, 2018 .

Appreciating the initiative taken up by Karam Shyam to help the widows, Chief Minister said mat the objective of such initiative is to bring positive change in the society.

Biren said that the essence of doing politics is to render humane service with humane touch towards bringing inclusive development in the State.

He said that there would be no meaning of having good roads and infrastructure when people don't have good education, livelihood etc.

The foremost duty of being a human is to help the downtrodden people, widows, aged and homeless people of the State.

The present Government is committed to bring inclusive development in the State.

So the Government has undertaken many initiatives such as providing free diagnostics facilities at Government hospitals, financial and welfare assistance to disabled and aged people, health insurance scheme for the poor and disabled people etc.

In his presidential address, Minister for CAF&PD Karam Shyam said that the objective of organising such programme is to provide emotional and mental motivation/support among the widows and their children.

He believed that various leaders and well wishers would also come forward to help widows and their children living in the State.

Such initiative was started not just for the sake of doing politics, the Minister stressed and added that it is a simple gesture to help the widows and their children towards bringing inclusive development and positive change in the State.

Mentioning about the hardships faced by the widows, Shyam said that those children who know the pains of a mother will succeed in their life.

Commenting on the efforts and initiatives of the new Government under the leadership of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, he said that a Nation's greatness depends on its leader.

On the occasion, the dignitaries handed over educational financial assistance to some of the beneficiaries.

Altogether 495 children were selected for the educational financial assistance.

The Educational Financial Assistance is instituted with the donation from the Minister's monthly salary and monetary donations made by other well wishers.

MLA of Wangoi A/C O Lukhoi Singh and the Adhyaksha of Imphal West Zilla Parishad too attended the gathering among others.
