Imphal, May 24 2025:
The Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) has condemned the complaint lodged by the Sangaikot SubDivision Defence Committee (SSDDC) against social activist and its president Ashang Kasar.
According to a press release issued by IPFM, the complaint, addressed to the Officer-in-Charge of Sangaikot Police Station, accused Ashang Kasar of making a provocative social media post via an account named Kasar Ashang (@Ashang_Kasar) on X (formerly Twitter) .
The alleged post reads: "If anybody disturbs Naga people in Manipur, those staying in Kamjong, Tamei, Ukhrul, and Kangpokpi will not last 2 seconds.
Remember 1993 @meiteiheritage" .
The IPFM has denied the charges.
The Forum said that the alleged post was uploaded via a fake social media account named Kasar Ashang (@Ashang_Kasar), which was created to tarnish Kasar's image and spread communal hatred.
"No such post exists on Mr Kasar's verified or authorized platforms.
This is not the first attempt by certain groups to malign Mr Kasar's name.
Such repeated efforts to discredit his character through fabricated narratives reflect a dangerous pattern aimed at communal polarization.
We strongly condemn this malicious propaganda, which has no basis in fact and is intended to provoke unrest during an already sensitive period in Manipur," the Forum said.
Questioning the legitimacy of the 'so-called' Sangaikot Sub-Division Defence Committee, the IPFM said that the authority to level such serious accusations by an unrecognized and unmandated body must be scrutinized.
It urged the Government to thoroughly investigate the false complaint and take action against those who are attempting to incite division through deceitful means.
It also appealed the people of Manipur and responsible authorities to remain vigilant against organizations or individuals who engage in the deliberate distortion of facts and dissemination of misinformation.
