Pherzawl, January 24 2026: The District Administration of Pherzawl on Saturday observed National Girl Child Day at the Pherzawl Public Ground, reaffirming its commitment to the protection, education and empowerment of girls.

The programme was organised in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Office and the District Programme Officer, ICDS, under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.

The observance featured an awareness and sensitisation session along with a signature campaign to promote gender equality and social responsibility.

As part of the event, certificates, school bags and cash prizes were awarded to 14 meritorious girls, while baby packs were distributed to fully immunised baby girls.

Awards were also presented to participants of BBBP sports tournaments and BBBP icons.

Sanitary pads were distributed to adolescent girls to promote menstrual health and hygiene awareness.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the need for equal opportunities for girls and underscored education as a key instrument for empowerment.

Emphasising the role of families and communities, the Deputy Commissioner called for collective efforts to support girls' education, noting that education enables women to emerge as leaders and role models in society.

A National Girl Child Day Pledge was administered during the programme, with participants reaffirming their resolve to create a safer, more inclusive and equitable future for every girl.

The observance reflected the district's continued efforts towards social empowerment and community resilience.
