Locals block Mayai Lambi at Mongshangei

Imphal, November 23 2025: Enraged by the highly dilapidated condition of Mayai Lambi and the Government's failure to repair it despite repeated assurances, locals blocked the road at Mongshangei Mamang Leikai area today.

Speaking to the media, a protestor Naobi Koijam said the road has been neglected for long by the Government and the relevant Department despite repeated appeals from the public to properly repair it.

She said that they staged similar protests against the Government's failure to repair the highly dilapidated road earlier too.

She continued that the protest was suspended after the Department officials came and assured that the road would be repaired properly before the Ningol Chakkouba festival.

"However, no repair work has been done till date", said Naobi while adding that this time, the people will not fall for any tricks and the protest will continue until the road is properly reconstructed and strengthened.

She highlighted that the numerous potholes and cracks on the road have created dangerous driving conditions, especially when filled with water during the rainy season, leading to multiple motor accidents.

She also mentioned that many people, particularly the elderly and children are suffering from various health problems due to the dust kicked up by vehicles driving on the broken road.

Naobi further appealed to the Government and relevant Department to initiate repair work of the road at the earliest to protect the commuters from frequent accidents and health hazards.
