Ukhrul joins World Folklore Day

Ukhrul, August 22 2025:
Ukhrul joined the global observance of World Folklore Day on Friday with a programme organized by Tuitha at Prologue Library, Viewland titled "Atam Akhali (Once Upon a Time) .
The event encouraged participants to share folk stories and reflect on their cultural significance.
During the event, a group reading of a Tangkhul story was held.
It was followed by a storytelling session conducted by Honpam Raleng, a local cultural knowledge bearer from Hunphun and remarks on Tangkhul culture by SK Imon, Tangkhul lecturer at Sentinel College.
The programme was attended by more than fifty people with a notable presence of youths, highlighting growing interest among youngsters in preserving the storytelling traditions that form an integral part of Tangkhul community's rich cultural heritage.
Tuitha is a recently formed group of likeminded individuals which aims to promote the authentic usage of the Tangkhul language, especially among the younger generation.
The name "Tuitha" means "word seed," signifying the planting and nurturing of language and tradition.
