Imphal, July 21 2025:
MAHUD Director Ngangom Uttam has maintained that until door-to-door collection of garbage is successful, household wastes will continue to be dumped along the roadside.
He made the remark during the one-day social service camp carried out in selected areas of Khwairamband Keithel and Thangal Bazar in connection with the 18th foundation day of Manipur Senmit Ehou Lup (MASEL).
Speaking on the occasion, Ng Uttam said to make the door-to-door garbage collection a success, people's cooperation and an understanding between the locals and the NGOs managing the garbage pick-ups is required.
There needs to be an agreement on how many times and what at time the garbage pick-ups will come every week and the monthly fees charged for the service.
The NGO should also print their number on the cards provided by them for the service so that customers can call them in case of complaints, he added.
If the NGOs disregard the complaints, customers can reach out to the municipality.
The MAHUD Director thus encouraged the public to call in their complaints to ensure that the door-to-door garbage collection is punctual and a success.
He further urged people to emulate Indore, the winner of cleanest city at the Swachh Survekshan Awards 2024-25.Referring to Jiribam, the "Most Promising Town" winner, he said that Jiribam Municipal Council carries out source segregation of waste materials where the garbage is divided into 15/16 different types.
As this initiative requires help from the public, so does maintaining cleanliness in the market places.
The municipality councils alone cannot keep the city clean without any support from the people, he remarked.
Other notable dignitaries present at the event include MASEL advisor and former UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam; MASEL president H Nanaocha; Kshetrimayum Shanti, president, Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham Amadi Shaktam Kanba Lup; Laishram Memma Devi, general secretary, Manipur Nupi Keithel Marup Khwairamband Keithel and Mayanglambam (O) RK Radhesana, president, Nupi Keithel Semgat Shagatpa Lup Khwairamband Keithel.
