Imphal, May 21 2026: Frustrated over the alleged inaction of the Government regarding the use of sub standard paper in printing textbooks and answer scripts, volunteers of the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) stormed the office of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) at Babupara today.

The protesters also pelted eggs at the office.

The protesters attempted to enter the BOSEM office by breaching the gate, but were stopped by security personnel.

The DESAM volunteers began marching toward the BOSEM office around 11.30 am, raising slogans and holding placards, demanding the resignation of the Commissioner of Education (S), as well as the BOSEM Chairman-in-charge and Secretary-in-charge.

Criticising the silence of the State Government and BOSEM on the issue as unacceptable, they also called for a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the matter and publicly disclose the number of textbooks issued for the 2026 academic session.

It is unfortunate that the relevant authorities have failed to resolve the 'paper scam' to date, DESAM president Oinam Romesh told the media.

He added that BOSEM has effectively turned education into a joke.

Noting that they have been urging BOSEM to resolve the issue for nearly seven months, he accused the Board of attempting to conceal the 'scam' .

He called on the Government to constitute a high-level committee to investigate the matter.
