34th Manipuri Language Day observed widely

The 34th Manipuri Language Day was observed widely in the State today to commemorate the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian constitution under the 71st Amendment Act on August 20, 1992.The All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) in collaboration with AIYF, AISF, ISCUF, IPTA and PWA Manipur celebrated the 34th Manipuri Language Day at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road, Imphal today.
The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including Dr M Nara, former Minister (Art & Culture); L Iboyaima, advisor, Progressive Writer Association Manipur; L Thoiren, former secretary, CPI Manipur State; L Sotinkumar, former president, AIYF National Council; and RK Amusana, former president AISF Manipur State.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Nara said that language is not just a system of communication, it is the very foundation upon which societies are built and developed.

He stated that language helps people build a stronger sense of belonging to their culture, boosting their mental health and overall social cohesion.
Recounting the role played by CPI in the inclusion of the Manipuri Language in the 8th Schedule, he said, "Tripura MP Dasharat Dev first raised the issue in the Parliament in 1952.Following this, CPI leaders such as Biren Dutta continued to push for the recognition of the Manipuri Language".
He continued that Manipuri language was included in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution due to the concerted efforts of the Manipuri language lovers.
Dr P Khogendro Singh, convenor of 34th Manipuri Language Day Celebration Committee, called for collective effort to secure classical language status for the Manipuri language.
Similarly, Wakhallon Mannaba Apunba (WAMA), Kangleipak also celebrated the 34th Manipuri Language Day at Manipur Press Club, Imphal today.
The celebration was graced by Akham Joykumar, Chairman, Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM); Moirangthem Naokhamba Meetei, president, WAMA; Namoijam Tomba, advisor, WAMA; Dr Waikhom Romesh, advisor, WAMA; Sivadutta Luwang, member secretary, LSTB; Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman, president, HERICOUN; and Laishram Joy Khuman, president, All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association as presidium members.
RK Tharaksana, president, WASDEV; Sougrakpam Sumati, general secretary, AMSGO; and Khaidem Ingocha, president, MEELAL also attended the programme as resource persons.
As part of the event, a poem recitation session was also conducted.
Moreover, the Manipur People's Party also celebrated the 34th Manipuri Language Day at its head office in Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal today.
The observation was graced by dignitaries, including S Brojen Singh, president, MPP; MN Ningomba, retired Professor, Linguistic Department, Manipur University; and N Santomba, Professor, Manipuri Department, Manipur University.
MPP working presidents Dr S Ibomcha Singh, N Qjit Singh, Moirangthem Sharat Singh and K Krishnachandra; general secretary Khongbantambam Sharatchandra and other senior leaders and members of the party were also present at the event.
