Imphal, May 16 2026: Social worker Laitonjam Jayananda on Saturday called for collective efforts to further develop Modem College, Porompat, so it can produce more quality students.

He was speaking at the prize distribution of the college's 56th Annual Inter House College Meet 2026.The three-day meet, held from May 14 to 16-, featured sports and literary events.

Jayananda, who attended as guest of honour, described college years as a crucial phase for students and stressed the need to strengthen Modem College, a prominent institution in Imphal East district.

He expressed concern over a recent theft of valuable items from the college, urging that those responsible be traced and punished under the law.

Police have already registered a case and begun investigation, he said.

To aid the probe, Jayananda announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 from his side for anyone providing credible information leading to the arrest of the culprits.

Jayananda also appealed for Government support to improve infrastructure at the college and assured assistance from his side to make it a modem institution.

Principal Prof N Romabati, who was chief guest, said the annual sports and literary meet helps nurture skilled sportspersons and literary talents from Manipur.

IQAC Coordinator N Bhubon presided over the function.

Prizes were distributed to winners of various sports and literary competitions.
