Paddy transplantation festival "Paoki" celebrated in Purul

The three-day traditional paddy transplantation festival "Paoki", also known as the tourism festival of Manipur was celebrated at Purul village in Senapati district on May 15 and 16 .
The event was graced by Vekhosayi Nyekha, advisor to Tenyimi Union, Dimapur as the chief guest.
Purul Tourism Festival also known as the Paoki Festival sponsored by the Tourism department, Govt of Manipur, is a significant event celebrated at Purul village in Senapati district, Manipur.
It is a three-day traditional paddy transplantation festival observed by the Poumai Naga tribe, showcasing the region's rich cultural heritage.
The event spans three consecutive days, with distinct activities each day, including traditional feasts, cultural performances, and community gatherings.
Guests and tourists are treated lavishly with free food, drinks, and shelter, highlighting the warm hospitality of the Poumai Naga people.
Paoki is an integral part of the Poumai Naga tribe's traditions, promoting community bonding and cultural exchange.
Tourism Dept has earmarked the fund since 2017 and named it as a Tourism festival of Manipur.
Naada Fly, president of the Purul Youth & Students Organization (PYSO) in his welcome address stated that the event is to celebrate the spirit of agriculture, the strength of the community and the rich cultural heritage.
The President mentioned that through sustainable farming, people of the region strive for a bountiful harvest.
The youth leader prayed that the festival foster unity, joy and a deeper connection with the age-old tradition with gratitude at the beginning of the paddy transplantation ceremony.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vekhosayi Nyekha expressed his happiness to witness the old traditions which are still practised in the region.
With the arrival of planting season, the chief guest prays that God will give a bountiful harvest as the villagers start their transplantation from May 16 .
