Imphal, October 11 2025:
Manipur Fire Service Department, Government of Manipur on Saturday inaugurated a 7 Days Fire Safety Auditors Training at its Headquarter in Imphal.
The inaugural function was graced by dignitaries, including Ningombam Subhas, Chief Engineer, PWD Manipur; Nongthombam Benju Singh, Chief Town Planner, Town Planning Department, Manipur; and Laishram Nabachandra Singh, Director, Manipur Fire Service.
Speaking on the occasion, Ningombam Subhas said that the Fire Service Department has taken a good step by conducting the training to equip fire safety auditors with the necessary skills to assess & improve fire safety in buildings, hospitals, and markets in the State.
He stated that during construction of high-rise buildings, incorporating dedicated water tanks and proper electrical systems is crucial for fire safety, especially during natural disasters.
"In a major earthquake, falling and collapsing buildings are the leading cause of death and injury.
However, electrocution and gas explosions are significant secondary hazards that can increase the death toll in the aftermath", he added.
Citing the example of Japan which has experienced high death tolls from earthquakes, Subhas said, "Japan has significantly reduced earthquake fatalities through a robust and multifaceted preparedness culture, combining advanced technology, strict building codes, extensive public education, and stringent fire safety measures".
Ningombam Subhas further urged all to leave adequate space for fire service vehicles when constructing houses/buildings to ensure effective and safe fire & rescue operations during an emergency.
