Many condole demise of Saikhom Kamlakanta

Several civil society organisations and women's bodies have condoled the demise of Saikhom Kamlakanta Singha, former president and advisor of All Assam Manipuri Students' Union (AAMSU), who passed away on September 7 after a brief illness.
In a joint statement, 23 organisations including AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi, MACHA LEIMA, EECHAL, NLANL, NIMPAL, Thoubal Ima, ANUL, EEVFAM, KKSSL, CADA, MAPI Council and Meitei Council Moreh said Kamlakanta was a prominent leader who worked since his student days for the welfare of students and for uniting Manipuris settled outside Manipur.
He worked to address hardships faced by Manipuris in Assam and Silchar and fostered ties between CSOs of Assam and Manipur.
His demise is an irreparable loss, they said.
Separately, the Manipuri Language Development Committee held a condolence meeting at its Keishampat office on Thursday, recalling his contribution to Manipuri language, literature and society in Assam and the North East.
A former teacher of Manipuri subject, he retired as Principal in-charge of DNK Higher Secondary School, Silchar.
Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur, also expressed deep sorrow, saying his selfless service for the people of Assam and Manipur as AAMSU president and social activist will be remembered.
The loss is irreparable not only for people of Cachar but for the entire Meitei community, it said.
The Regional Indigenous Forum For Peaceful Co-existence (RIPCO), Manipur, also condoled his demise.
The groups prayed for peace for the departed soul and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
