Mother's Day celebrated across State with tributes to mothers

Mother's Day was celebrated across different parts of the State on Sunday with various organisations organising programmes to honour and pay tribute to mothers for their love, care and sacrifices.
At Bishnupur, Youth for Change, Oinam Assembly Constituency celebrated Mother's Day under the theme "The Great Unburdening" at Irengbam Maning Makha Community Hall.
As part of the programme, 13 selected mothers from the Oinam Assembly Constituency were honoured with gifts in recognition of their contributions to society and family.
A newly constructed public toilet was also inaugurated and handed over to the public during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP National Kisaan Morcha secretary Khumukcham Jibon stated that a progressive and developed society can only be achieved when mothers are treated with love, care and respect.
The programme was also attended by BJP Oinam Mandal president Th Mangi, vice-president Th Ningthemani and BJP Manipur Pradesh Kisan Morcha secretary Th Rajesh, among others.
Meanwhile, the Library and Information Centre, Kakching celebrated Mother's Day during its Special Sunday Programme, 572nd edition, held at Kakching.
The event was attended by DFO Chandel Munal Meitei, Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup convenor Kalpana Chandam and co-convenor Sangeeta as presidium members.
During the programme, dignitaries released a music album titled "Leigi Dolai", sung by Lalitchandra Mayanglambam, written by Huyen Lanpao, correspondent Gyanand Naorem and edited by GC Angomcha.
The song was dedicated to the innocent children who lost their lives in the bomb attack at Tronglaobi allegedly carried out by Kuki militants.
Prior to the release programme, Linda Kshetrimayum, the first Chartered Accountant from Manipur, interacted with students and motivated them on pursuing a career as Chartered Accountant.
At Wabagai, the Social Library cum Information Centre celebrated International Mother's Day at Wabagai Awang Leikai Primary School.
The programme was attended by president of the Social Library cum Information Centre Mayengbam Lalhari, chairperson of Wabagai GP Administrative Committee Yumnam Hemchand, former Zilla Parishad member Mayengbam Jayentakumar, Kakching District Senior Medical Officer Dr Elangbam Kiran, Head of the Botany Department of Moirang College Yumnam Joy, social worker Mayengbam Ranjit and WALIDA president Mayengbam Ranjit, among others.
Several elderly mothers from the area were honoured during the event by presenting gifts.
Meanwhile, the Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association also observed Mother's Day as part of its ongoing Regular Yoga Training Programme 2026 being conducted at Kakching Chumnang Leikai Community Hall from May 1 to June 30 .
A special demonstration of Ardha Matsyendrasana was conducted during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, general secretary of the association Naorem Aken stated that the programme formed part of the 100-day countdown to the International Day of Yoga to be observed on June 21 and aimed at promoting yoga awareness among the people.
He explained that Ardha Matsyendrasana offers several health benefits, especially for women.
During the programme, trainees Nongmaithem Sunita Devi, Chandam Kalpana Devi and Nongmaithem Mandadori Devi also spoke on the significance of Mother's Day, highlighting the qualities of an ideal mother, the responsibilities of motherhood and the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship between mothers and children.
