Thoubal, May 08 2026: With an aim to educate students about the freedom fighters of the State, the Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891, Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) launched a poster campaign and awareness programme at educational institutions in Thoubal district.

The campaign, which had remained suspended for some time due to the prevailing situation in the State, resumed today with renew efforts to familiarise students with the history and sacrifices of Manipur's freedom fighters.

Speaking in connection with the programme, committee coconvenor Heikrujam Nanaocha Meitei said the initiative was aimed at helping students learn about the names and photographs of both known and lesser-known freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the motherland during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .

He stated that the committee has been organising poster campaigns in schools and colleges across the State to instill patriotism and respect for the martyrs among the younger generation.

He informed that the committee has so far collected details of around 200 martyrs and is working collectively with their family members to uncover more historical information related to the freedom fighters.

He also appealed to the public to extend support and cooperation to the effort.

As part of today's programme, the poster campaign and awareness programme was conducted at Fancier Higher Secondary School, Thoubal and New Era Higher Secondary School, Thoubal.

The committee also expressed gratitude to the students and teachers of both institutions for their cooperation and support in making the programme successful.
