GION Senapati holds oath-taking ceremony for nursing students

Greenland Institute of Nursing (GION), Senapati conducted its lamp lighting, capping and oath-taking ceremony at the institute premises, marking the formal introduction of nursing students into the profession.
The programme was graced by Dr Sumpi Percy, Chief Medical Officer, Senapati, as the chief guest, DD Elizabeth, Vice President, Senapati District Womens' Association as the functional president, and Dr Helen Shimray, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Senapati, as the guest of honour.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr Lalneikim, Principal of the Institute, said the ceremony is a sacred nursing tradition honouring Florence Nightingale, "the Lady with the Lamp".
She stated that the ceremony symbolises the transfer of knowledge, dedication to caring for the sick, and a pledge to uphold compassion and ethics in the nursing profession.
The institute offers BSc Nursing and GNM courses and currently has 82 students, including 63 BSc Nursing and 19 GNM students.
The administration also facilitates job placement for students through associated agencies after completion of their courses.
During the ceremony, the 5th batch of BSc Nursing students and the 1st batch of GNM students participated in the lamp lighting, capping and oath-taking.
A special prayer was offered by Rev MS Ashon Chiru, Youth Secretary, CRBCA, Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Dr Sumpi Percy said the reputation of an institution depends on the conduct and competence of its graduates.
Describing nursing as a noble and respected profession, she urged the students to be sincere, disciplined and compassionate, noting that nurses are often the first caregivers for patients in times of illness.
Faculty members from the Dr Anjuli Nayak Nursing School, Kangpokpi, Getwell Research & Healthcare Centre and BLATH Clinic also attended the programme.
