Noney, May 05 2025:
Noney Deputy Commissioner Dr Sharath Chandra Arroju launched the "Bal Vivah Mukht Bharat" (Child Marriage Free Bharat) campaign at Noney DC Conference Hall today in connection with the campaign against child marriage across the Nation.
The event was organised by District Administration, Noney and District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) Noney in collaboration with One Stop Centre, Noney.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Noney DC Dr Sharath Chandra Arroju stated that underage marriage had an adverse effect on the girl's child health, adding that it also disturbed the girl's educational career and employment opportunities.
"If a marriage takes place with the age less then 18 years for a girl child and less then 21 years for boys, such marriages are Child Marriage or Under Age Marriage", asserted the DC.
Stating that it is the collective responsibility of everyone to stop and prevent such unlawful marriage in every society, he urged the gathering to inform or contact the authority concerned or enforcement agencies if such marriages are found and liable for taking proper legal action.
He further appealed to the DCPO/DCPU and other line Departments dealing with the child marriage cases to work unitedly and whole heartedly and act promptly for the better future of every girl child in the district.
A pledge on protection of child marriage was also taken by everyone present at the programme during the function.
The event was also attended by Namsadai Peter Kamei, MPS, Superintendent of Police, Noney, Stiff Khapudang, MCS, ADM Noney and Palmei Kakhuran, Protection Officer, DCPU Noney.
