Krishna Janmashtami observed with devotional fervour in Imphal

Imphal, September 04 2026: Krishna Janmashtami, commemorating the birth of Lord Sri Krishna, was observed with devotional fervour across Imphal on Friday.

Devotees thronged Mahabali Temple in Palace Compound and offered prayers and floral tributes at the celebration organised by Mahabali Sevaite Samiti Manipur.

Priest Gurumayum Bobikumar said the Samiti has been observing Janmashtami every year and this year's celebration was held on a grand scale.

He said the observance marks the divine birth of Lord Krishna, who took human form to vanquish evil king Kansa and relieve the world of suffering.

He prayed that the puja may remove hardships faced by Manipur and usher in peace and prosperity.

Shri Shri Govindajee Temple Board also observed Janmashtami at Govindajee Temple, Palace Compound, where devotees offered prayers and flowers.

Meanwhile, Dharam Jagaran Sansthan Manipur marked the day by staging Shree Krishna Janmashtami Raas Leela at Ramjee Prabhu Mandop, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, with prayers for restoration of peace in Manipur.

Speaking at the event, spiritual leader of Dharam Jagaran Sansthan India, Dr Vivek Guruji Maharaj, who is on a peace mission in the State, said if peace can return to Kashmir, it can also return to Manipur.

He said his visit is not religious but aimed at helping restore peace after three years of conflict.

He informed that he has met representatives of various CSOs, DGP Mukesh Singh and IDPs in relief camps, and that a committee has been formed to engage with State and Central stakeholders for peace-building.

He appealed to people to shun differences of community and religion, see each other with love, and live together in harmony.

North East in-charge of Dharam Jagaran Sansthan Dharmarth Trust-Bharat Haorungbam Rabikant Meitei, women state president H Tangbi and other members attended the programme, which featured Pung Cholom and Raas Leela performances.
