Two arrested in connection with death of Rifleman

Chandel, September 01 2025: Chandel district police have arrested two prime accused, including a woman, in connection with the death of Rifleman As Rejoyson s/o As Marah Tangkhul of Soland village in Chandel district on August 29 .

Based on a credible source, the arrested persons have been identified as Tensubam Premkumar alias Ravi (34), s/o Tensubam Kirani alias Kiran of Naharup Makhapat, Porompat, Imphal East district and Yengkhom Ichantombi (27), w/o Tensubam Premkumar of Naharup Makhapat, Porompat, Imphal East district.

Notably, As Rejoyson, who was posted at 2nd MR, Imphal, was assaulted near Women's Market, Chandel, on August 29 around 3 pm and later succumbed to his injuries at District Hospital, Chandel.

An FIR was registered on Friday following the death of the 29 year-old Rifleman.

According to Chandel police, they immediately launched an investigation after receiving the written complaint from the victim's sister As Thangrila.

Following continuous and extensive search operations over the past three days by the Chandel PS and Chakpikarong PS team led by Ts Chamna Anal, MPS, Additional SP (Ops), Chandel, the two main accused were finally traced in the early hours of Monday at Khusophe, Anal Khunou area, approximately 45 km from Chandel District Headquarters, under the jurisdiction of Chakpikarong PS.

Both accused persons were arrested on the spot by the OC of Chakpikarong PS and team and were brought to Chandel PS for farther legal action and investigation.

Further investigation is underway.
