Imphal, April 28 2010:
The 24-hour State-wide bandh called by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) constituted against the killing of L Amudon failed to give much impact today.
It was called from the midnight of April 27.However, bandh was comparatively effective in pockets of Imphal East district.
In the State capital Imphal, most of the shops were seen opened and private transporters were seen plying on the roads.
However, the passenger buses suspended their services.
Some of the educational institutions were opened.
All the business establishments in Sawombung, Khurai areas were closed.
Some people began to burn tyres on the roads but the situation was controlled by the timely intervention of the Manipur police, Imphal East district and Lamlai police.
No untoward incidents took place till the filing of this report.
Speaking to the media persons Momon Devi, an activist questioned why Amudon was killed and stated that L Amudon was a good person and had done so many good works in his locality.
Momon Devi stated that killing of innocent civilians by the unknown persons for little amount of money is not a new thing in Manipur.
