Imphal, July 15 2012:
The United Naga Council said it is constrained to express its strong exception to the action of provoking the Nagas in Chandel, whereby passage of Nagas have been provoked since July 12 and vehicles belonging to Nagas have been damaged at Kakching Lamkhai.
"While we extend our solidarity to the owners and passengers of the two Imphal bound vehicles that were burnt down by armed persons on July 11 between Bongyang and Thamnapokpi on National highway-39 as per media reports, targeting the Nagas in Chandel by blaming them for the criminal act is highly communal and provocative.
There are many armed groups both valley and hill based, operating on the highway.
The responsible group should be identified and befitting actions should be demanded against them.
However, holding the Chandel Naga public is indicative of a mob psychology instigated by an agenda that had been waiting to strike at the slightest excuse, however unjustifiable it may be.
That it is happening under the very nose of the administrations of the two districts, Chandel and Thoubal also points to the communal approach of the Government of Manipur," the UNC alleged today.
The UNC then urged the concerned to stop the provocation or else it will not remain mute over the incident.
