Rajnath assures talk with Amit Shah on Manipur Crisis

Defence minister Rajnath Singh has assured of discussing with union home minister Amit Shah about the present situation in Manipur and the demand for withdrawal of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement signed with Kuki militants, according to RPI-A national secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam.
Maheshwar along with union minister of social justice and empowerment Ramdas Athawale met the defence minister on Tuesday and drew his attention to the present situation in the state.
He apprised the minister about the illegal activities and inhuman crimes committed by Kuki militants under SoO and urged for abrogating the agreement.
The union minister was also urged to bring up the issue of Manipur in the ongoing winter session of the parliament.
Maheshwar told The People's Chronicle that the defence minister assured him of holding talk with Amit Shah over the matter, adding that the matter lies with the home ministry.
The defence minister also told Maheshwar that he could have done more if he was the home minister.
Regarding the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation, Rajnath conveyed to the young politician that the state government is taking up the campaign.
He also told him that the resources of Indian Air Force are not used in the campaign as it might hurt the sentiment of a certain community.
In response, Maheshwar urged the minister not to bring in communal angle in the destruction of illegal poppy cultivation and sought his cooperation in uprooting the illegal poppy cultivation and drug cartels in the state.
