BSEM, MEELAL ink MoU; Akaba Ningshing Mana announced

The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) and Meetei Eerol Eeyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) on Tuesday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for hosting 'Chingsubam Oja Akaba Ningshing Mana', an annual award to be presented to the top scorer in Manipuri subject in the HSLC examination.
Post signing the memorandum at the BSEM office here on Tuesday afternoon, the board officials declared Christina Nongthombam, student of Nawa Sin-damshang, Thoubal Kshetrileikai, as the first winner of the award for this year.
Christina, daughter of Nongthombam Ibosana and Nongthombam Mala of Thoubal Nongthombam Sabaltongba Mamang Leikai scored 100 out of 100 in Manipur subject in HSLCE 2023 .
Addressing a press meet at the BSEM conference hall in this regard, MEELAL president Khaidem Ingocha said that the award has been constituted and sponsored by MEELAL in honour of Chingsubam Akaba, a dedicated activist who led to the replacement of Bengali script by Meetei Mayek for Manipuri subject in education syllabus.
The award carries Rs 10,000 in cash, he informed.
BSEM chairman Akham Joykumar said that the board welcomes the initiative of MEELAL as it would not only promote Meetei Mayek but also encourage the students.
He also spoke on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which gives focus on native languages and called for a concerted effort to promote Manipuri language and script.
BSEM secretary Dr S Mangijao, MEELAL secretary general Langoljam Nongmailembi, secretary (education) Paonam Thakaba and advisor Namoijam Tomba also attended the MoU signing ceremony.
