WIGC craft bazar begins at Thoubal

A 10-day long Craft Bazar being organised by Women's Income Generation Centre (WIGC), Thoubal under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles has begun from today at Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School ground in Thoubal district.
In all 150 stalls displaying various products of Handloom and Handicrafts are participating in the craft bazar.
The inaugural function of the craft bazar was attended by IGAR (South) Maj Gen CA Krishnan as chief guest, secretary of WIGC Indira Oinam as president and Commander of 9 Sector AR Brig Gajendra Prasad, Assistant Director of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) T Rolle Vareishim and Commandant of 15 Assam Rifles Col Sanjoy Ghosh as guests of honour.
Various awards like Excellent awards, First Lady Governor award and Indira awards were presented to the selected meritorious students from different schools of Thoubal district, outstanding artisans and other individuals who have left a mark in their respective fields.
Speaking at the occasion, Maj Gen CA Krishnan acknowledged the efforts being made by WIGC for the promotion of handloom and handicrafts and empowerment of women.
He expressed hope that the craft bazar would not only provide a platform to the artisans to showcase their talent and skill but also give them a new impetus.
Such a event would also help in improving the quality of the products being brought out by the artisans.
Stating that Assam Rifles in Manipur is the friend of the people, Major General Krishnan said that Assam Rifles is always ready to help in taking up any developmental activities of the people as a true friend.
Later, IGAR (S) visited the stalls and admired the skill of local women.
