Imphal, May 28 2025:
Social activist Malem Thongam has urged the yet-to-be formed popular Government to prioritize the issues of free movement and facilitating the return of displaced folks to their homes.
She made the statement during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club while welcoming the meeting of 10 MLAs with the Governor today with an appeal to expedite the formation of a popular Government backed by 44 State legislators in the State.
If the ten Kuki MLAs become a part of the popular Government with a mindset to harm the territorial integrity of Manipur, then the ongoing conflict will never be resolved, she opined.
For lasting peace, she urged the 44 MLAs to have a dialogue with the 10 Kuki MLAs and get their thoughts to make sure that the new Government will be well established.
As its first step, the anticipated popular Government should take steps to ensure the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons to their own homes.
Additionally, the Government should facilitate free movement along the National Highways and other vital routes, she added.
