Imphal, December 25 2008:
THE SHRILL and vigorous campaigns of the rival parties in the Moirang by-election have reached the climax with all the respective party leaders and functionaries rushing to Moirang assembly constituency to help campaigning for their party candidates.
Meanwhile, state Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today said that the regional party, MPP has joined hands with the most communal party BJP and urged the voters of Kwakta to root out all communal parties.
The Chief Minister said this at a large public meeting held as the last campaign meeting of the Congress party at Kwakta public ground today.
The meeting was organised to woo the Muslim electorate of Kwakta to vote for the Congress candidate Mairembam Prithviraj in the by-election of Moirang assembly constituency.
The Chief Minister further said that in one of the few places in India of which the residents are most politically aware, more than 70% of the Muslim electorate voted for the Congress party and made it win the elections with the conviction that Congress is the only party which can protect the integrity of India.
Similarly in Manipur, three fourth of the Muslim brethren of Kwakta would surely vote for the Congress making it win the Moirang by-election, the Chief Minister said.
He also said that it is quite essential for the ministers and MLAs to gather at the Chief Minister's bungalow to discuss various issues happening in Manipur.
By this, it can't be said that election campaign has been conducted at the bungalow.
Moreover, there is no question of violating the Model Code of Conduct.
He said, the government would make arrangements to rehabilitate those victims who suffered following the incident of burning of houses and mob attack at Kwakta recently.
He appealed to the residents of Kwakta to live together with all people with love and peace.

President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, Gaikhangam who also attended the public meeting, said that the people should not have faith in those politicians who keep changing political parties very often.
They tell lies.
What they said is good today, they will say bad tomorrow.
The electorate should not believe them, he said.
Works Minister K Ranjit said, we must not take election as an easy thing.
By electing representatives irresponsibly during election, today we are facing a situation in which there is no peace in the society, he said. Education Minister L Jayentakumar said, why Moirang AC has lagged behind in development is because of the mistakes made in the past.
In order to correct the mistakes and to bring development in Moirang AC, it is imperative for the electorate of the constituency to vote for the Congress candidate Prithviraj. He also said that BJP is not a party which feels the pulse of Manipuri people.
When the former Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee came to the North East, he did not reach Manipur.
That was a clear example of BJP's indifference towards Manipur, he said. Congress is the only party which can give special packages for women and OBC in Manipur, he said. IPR Minister TN Haokip, MOBC Minister Md Allauddin and other Congress MLAs attended the meeting.
