Unsung heroes of Anglo-Manipuri War remembered

Forum for Protection of Heritage of 23 Unsung Heroes, 1891 (Andaman Chapter) observed the 135th Exile Day at the Memorial Complex of Unsung Heroes of Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891, located on the southern side of BT Park, Imphal on Sunday.
The event was graced by Prof W Nabakumar, former Dean, School of Human & Environmental Science, Manipur University; Senjam Surjit, Nongthonba, Cheirap Loishang, Govindaji Temple Board, Imphal; and Chongtham Ibocha Singh, vice president, Forum for Protection of Heritage of 23 Unsung Heroes (Manipur Chapter), 1891, as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof W Nabakumar said that the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 is one of the most important events in the history of Manipur.
He stated that after the decisive Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, many brave heroes were killed, imprisoned and sent to exile in Andaman.
He continued that the memory of the war remains a powerfill symbol of resistance and sacrifice for the people of Manipur.
He also appreciated the Forum for organising the event to remember and pay tribute to the unsung heroes who were exiled to Andaman & Nicobar Islands after Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891.Prof W Nabakumar asserted that everyone should acknowledge and remember the sacrifices & bravery of the brave heroes who fought bravely against the mighty British empire for Manipur's independence.
Offering of floral tributes to the brave heroes, Pena Sheitharol, and sword salute by Thang-Ta artists were the other highlights of the event.
